(Johann) Wendel Seibert (1721 - 1802) was born in the Saarland (now part of Germany) and immigrated to the United States in
1738. He arrived in Philadephia and later settled in Bethel Township (now Berks county), Pennsylvania. In 1796, Wendel Seibert,
along with some of his grown children, moved to Martinsburg, (West) Virginia. (John) Jacob Seibert (1752-1832), Michael Seibert
(1791-1858), and Elizabeth (Seibert) Nesbitt (1776-?) were children of Wendel Seibert. Michael Seibert married Catherine (Myers)
Seibert (1794-1878), and Jacob Myers Seibert (1815-1891) was their son. More information concerning the Seibert family can
be found in A&M 1869.
Papers of the Jacob Seibert family of Berkeley County, West Virginia, from 1813 to 1918. Manuscript materials chiefly include
surveys, inventories, receipts, and notes related to the settlement of Seibert's farm. There are documents related to the
death of Jacob Seibert and the settlement of his estate (including land surveys and inventories of property), as well as letters
of attorney related to the subsequent suit by his daughter Elizabeth Nesbitt (nee Seibert) against his son and executor Michael
Seibert (1813-1836). Contains court records (summons and receipts) related to the service of Jacob M. Seibert as a Constable
(1841-1876). Also contains documents related to the death of Catherine Seibert (nee Myers) (1878-1879). Later records (1883-1918)
consist of pamplets, newspaper clippings, receipts of payment, and other ephemera for other family members, including W.V.
Seibert, W.M. Seibert, Henry J. Seibert, Moses Seibert, C.J. Seibert, C.M. Seibert, and C.A. Seibert. Seibert is also spelled Sibert and Seybert in the
documents in this collection.
